Ingredients

  • Short-grain rice - 1 cup (200g)
  • Water - 1.5 cups (360ml)
  • Nori seaweed sheets - 2 sheets
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons (30ml)
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (9g)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in fresh water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and add it to a pot with 1.5 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
  4. While the rice is cooking, prepare the seasoning by mixing soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and black pepper in a small bowl.
  5. Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and stir in the seasoning mixture. Let it sit covered for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  6. While the rice rests, cut the nori seaweed sheets into small strips or squares.
  7. To serve, divide the seasoned rice between two bowls, top with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, and the nori strips.
