  • Cornstarch - 1/4 cup (30 grams)
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (5 grams)
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams)
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon (3 grams)
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Water - 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons (30 ml)
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon (15 grams)
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 1 tablespoon (15 grams)
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (10 grams)
  • Green onions - 1, finely chopped

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. In another bowl, mix the beaten egg with water, and then add it to the flour mixture. Stir until a thick batter forms.
  3. Add the chicken pieces to the batter, ensuring they are well-coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  5. Carefully drop the battered chicken pieces into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey, gochujang, and sesame oil over low heat. Stir until well combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Toss the fried chicken pieces in the sauce until evenly coated.
