- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
- Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- In a bowl, combine the water, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chili flakes (if using). Stir until the sugar and salt are fully dissolved.
- Add the thinly sliced red onions to the bowl and mix well to ensure the onions are fully coated in the pickling liquid.
- Transfer the mixture to a clean jar or airtight container, making sure the onions are submerged in the liquid.
- Let the pickled onions sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes, then transfer to the refrigerator.
- Allow the onions to pickle for at least 1 hour before serving, though they taste even better after 24 hours.
