Ingredients

  • Seitan - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (for frying)
  • Burger buns - 2 pieces
  • Cabbage, shredded - 1 cup
  • Carrot, grated - 1/2 cup
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Kimchi - 1/2 cup (for topping)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, gochujang, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and brown sugar to create a marinade.
  2. Cut the seitan into burger-sized patties and marinate them in the mixture for at least 15 minutes.
  3. While the seitan marinates, prepare the kimchi slaw by mixing shredded cabbage, grated carrot, chopped green onions, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds in a separate bowl. Set aside.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the marinated seitan patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are caramelized and heated through.
  5. Toast the burger buns in the same skillet for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked seitan patties on the bottom half of the toasted buns, topping with kimchi slaw and additional kimchi if desired. Add the top half of the buns to finish.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your Korean BBQ Seitan Burger!
