Ingredients

  • Ground halal beef - 250 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Carrot, finely diced - 1 small
  • Mushrooms, finely chopped - 100 grams
  • Frozen peas - 50 grams
  • Puff pastry sheets - 2 (approx. 25 cm x 25 cm each)
  • Egg, beaten - 1 (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground halal beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the soy sauce, gochujang, sesame oil, diced carrot, chopped mushrooms, and frozen peas to the skillet. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped green onions. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  6. Roll out one puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to fit a pie dish (approximately 20 cm in diameter).
  7. Transfer the pastry to the pie dish and fill it with the beef mixture, spreading it evenly.
  8. Roll out the second puff pastry sheet and place it over the filling. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork or crimping with your fingers. Cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds over it.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
