- Short-grain rice - 1 cup (200g)
- Water - 4 cups (1 liter)
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Green onion - 2, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Chicken breast - 100g, cooked and shredded (optional)
- Egg - 1, for garnish (optional)
- Toasted sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice and place it in a pot with 4 cups of fresh water.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Add salt, sesame oil, grated ginger, and shredded chicken (if using) to the porridge, stirring well to combine.
- Continue to simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until the porridge reaches your desired consistency.
- Serve the Juk hot, garnished with chopped green onions, a soft-boiled egg, and toasted sesame seeds if desired.
