- Eggs - 4 large
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Water - 120 ml
- Mirin - 30 ml
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, crushed
- Green onion - 1 stalk, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- Place the eggs in a pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, cover the pot and turn off the heat. Let the eggs sit for 10-12 minutes, then transfer them to an ice bath to cool.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the soy sauce, water, mirin, sugar, crushed garlic, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Once simmering, add the cooled, peeled eggs to the saucepan. Let them simmer in the sauce for about 10 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even coating.
- After 10 minutes, remove the eggs from the sauce and place them on a serving plate.
- Drizzle the sesame oil over the eggs, and garnish with chopped green onions and red pepper flakes if desired.
- Serve warm or at room temperature as a side dish.
