Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 200 grams
  • Short-grain rice - 100 grams
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sea salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a boil, then add the soaked rice and reduce to a simmer.
  3. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sea salt to the pot, stirring occasionally.
  4. After about 15 minutes, add the mackerel fillets and diced carrot, cooking until the fish is flaky and the rice is soft, about another 10-15 minutes.
  5. Stir in the chopped green onions and sesame oil, adjusting seasoning with black pepper to taste.
  6. Remove from heat and let sit for a couple of minutes before serving.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
