Ingredients
- Beef short ribs - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Rice - 1 cup (uncooked)
- Water - 2 cups
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
- Add the beef short ribs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight for better flavor).
- While the beef is marinating, rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 10 minutes.
- While the rice is resting, heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade and grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- Once the beef is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing into bite-sized pieces.
- To serve, scoop the rice into bowls, top with the sliced galbi, and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
