Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 120 milliliters
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 10 minutes.
  2. While the tofu is being pressed, prepare the sauce by mixing soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, and minced garlic in a small bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. After pressing, cut the tofu into 1.5 cm cubes.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the tofu cubes. Cook for about 5 minutes until they are lightly browned on one side.
  5. Gently flip the tofu cubes and pour the sauce over them, then add chopped green onion and red chili flakes if using.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors of the sauce.
  7. Once done, remove the lid and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to thicken the sauce, stirring gently.
  8. Transfer the Dubu-jorim to a serving plate and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving.
