Ingredients
- Sweet rice flour (glutinous rice flour) - 200 grams
- Water - 250 ml
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Soy sauce (kosher) - 2 tablespoons
- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic, minced - 1 clove
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - for grilling
- Green onions, chopped - for garnish
- Sesame seeds - for garnish
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine sweet rice flour and water, stirring until smooth. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to a pot and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens and becomes a sticky dough (about 5-7 minutes).
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough for a couple of minutes.
- Divide the dough into small pieces (about 20 grams each), roll them into small logs, and then skewer them onto wooden sticks.
- In a small bowl, mix sugar, soy sauce, gochujang, minced garlic, and sesame oil to create a sauce.
- Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat and lightly oil it with vegetable oil. Grill the skewered rice cakes for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they develop a nice golden color.
- Brush the sweet and spicy sauce onto the rice cakes while grilling.
- Once done, remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot.
