Ingredients

  • Rice cakes (tteok) - 200 grams
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 2 tablespoons
  • Gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Fish cake (optional, gluten-free) - 100 grams, sliced
  • Boiled egg - 2, halved (for topping)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a medium pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
  2. Add the rice cakes to the boiling water and cook for 5-7 minutes until they become soft and chewy.
  3. While the rice cakes are cooking, in a separate bowl, mix gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil to create the sauce.
  4. Once the rice cakes are cooked, drain them and return them to the pot over medium heat.
  5. Pour the sauce over the rice cakes and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Add the fish cake slices (if using) and chopped green onions, cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes until everything is heated through.
  7. Serve hot, topping each bowl with a halved boiled egg and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
