Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 300 grams
  • Rice cakes (tteok) - 150 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onion (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Carrot (grated) - 1 small
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Vegetable oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 150 milliliters
  • Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) - 1 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, chopped green onion, grated carrot, and egg. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
  3. Add the rice cakes to the beef mixture and gently mix until the rice cakes are coated with the beef mixture.
  4. Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and spread the beef and rice cake mixture evenly in the dish.
  5. Pour 150 milliliters of water over the mixture to help steam the rice cakes while baking.
  6. Sprinkle sesame seeds and optional gochugaru over the top for added flavor.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  8. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the beef is cooked through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
