Ingredients

  • Beef short ribs - 300 grams
  • Sweet rice flour (also known as glutinous rice flour) - 100 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Carrot (julienned) - 50 grams
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Marinate the beef short ribs in the mixture for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sweet rice flour and water to form a thick batter. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and pour in the batter to form small pancakes. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Set aside.
  5. In the same pan, grill the marinated beef short ribs over medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side until nicely browned and cooked through.
  6. Add the julienned carrots to the pan for the last 2 minutes of cooking to slightly soften them.
  7. To serve, layer the grilled short ribs with the rice cakes and top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
