- Beef short ribs - 300 grams
- Sweet rice flour (also known as glutinous rice flour) - 100 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Carrot (julienned) - 50 grams
- Water - 200 ml
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
- Marinate the beef short ribs in the mixture for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for deeper flavor.
- In a separate bowl, combine sweet rice flour and water to form a thick batter. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and pour in the batter to form small pancakes. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Set aside.
- In the same pan, grill the marinated beef short ribs over medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side until nicely browned and cooked through.
- Add the julienned carrots to the pan for the last 2 minutes of cooking to slightly soften them.
- To serve, layer the grilled short ribs with the rice cakes and top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
