Ingredients

  • Sweet rice flour - 200 grams
  • Water - 180 milliliters
  • Maple syrup - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Red bean paste (sweetened) - 100 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sweet rice flour, water, maple syrup, and salt. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  2. Grease a steaming container with coconut oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the greased container, spreading it evenly. Add a layer of red bean paste on top, then cover with the remaining batter.
  4. Cover the container with a lid or a cloth to prevent water from dripping onto the batter during steaming.
  5. Prepare a steamer with boiling water and place the container inside. Steam for about 25 minutes, or until the rice cake is firm and cooked through.
  6. Remove the container from the steamer and let it cool for a few minutes. Once cool enough to handle, remove the Ddeok from the container.
  7. Cut the rice cake into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
