- Mackerel fillets - 300 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Water - 200 milliliters
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Red chili pepper - 1, sliced (optional)
- Black pepper - to taste
- Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, minced garlic, minced ginger, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
- Add the mackerel fillets to the saucepan, skin side down, and gently spoon some of the sauce over them.
- Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- During the last few minutes of cooking, add the chopped green onions and sliced red chili pepper.
- Once cooked, carefully transfer the mackerel to a serving plate and drizzle with the remaining sauce from the pan.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds and black pepper on top before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
