Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 200 milliliters
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Red chili pepper - 1, sliced (optional)
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, minced garlic, minced ginger, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Add the mackerel fillets to the saucepan, skin side down, and gently spoon some of the sauce over them.
  4. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  5. During the last few minutes of cooking, add the chopped green onions and sliced red chili pepper.
  6. Once cooked, carefully transfer the mackerel to a serving plate and drizzle with the remaining sauce from the pan.
  7. Sprinkle sesame seeds and black pepper on top before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
