Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 300 grams
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 3 cloves
  • Ginger (sliced) - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions (chopped) - 2 stalks
  • Carrot (sliced) - 1 medium
  • Potato (cubed) - 1 medium
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a large pot, combine water, soy sauce, gochujang, brown sugar, minced garlic, sliced ginger, and black pepper. Stir well to make the sauce.
  2. Add the mackerel fillets to the pot and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the sliced carrot and cubed potato. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Uncover the pot and gently stir the ingredients, ensuring the mackerel is coated with the sauce.
  5. Add the chopped green onions and drizzle with sesame oil. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice and enjoy your Dae-gu-jjim.
