Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Red chili peppers - 4 small
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
Steps
- Drain the firm tofu and press it between paper towels to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes.
- While the tofu is pressing, finely chop the red chili peppers, and mix them in a bowl with minced garlic, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
- Once the tofu is pressed, slice it into 1 cm thick slabs and carefully cut a pocket into each slab without cutting all the way through.
- Stuff each tofu pocket generously with the chili pepper mixture.
- Coat the stuffed tofu pieces lightly with cornstarch on both sides to help them crisp up when frying.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat, then add the stuffed tofu pieces in batches, frying each side until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the tofu from the pan and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve hot, garnished with additional chopped green onions if desired.
