Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Red chili peppers - 4 small
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Drain the firm tofu and press it between paper towels to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes.
  2. While the tofu is pressing, finely chop the red chili peppers, and mix them in a bowl with minced garlic, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Once the tofu is pressed, slice it into 1 cm thick slabs and carefully cut a pocket into each slab without cutting all the way through.
  4. Stuff each tofu pocket generously with the chili pepper mixture.
  5. Coat the stuffed tofu pieces lightly with cornstarch on both sides to help them crisp up when frying.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat, then add the stuffed tofu pieces in batches, frying each side until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the tofu from the pan and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with additional chopped green onions if desired.
