Ingredients

  • Tteok (Korean rice cakes) - 200 grams
  • Korean red chili pepper flakes (gochugaru) - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
  • Green onions (sliced) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds (toasted) - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) - 100 ml

Steps

  1. In a medium bowl, combine gochugaru, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and minced garlic to create a spicy glaze.
  2. Cut the tteok into bite-sized pieces (about 2 cm thick) and set aside.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the tteok and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  4. Remove the fried tteok and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. While the tteok is still warm, toss it in the spicy glaze until evenly coated.
  6. Plate the chili pepper snack and sprinkle with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
