Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 100 grams
  • Tapioca starch - 30 grams
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Spinach - 50 grams, blanched and chopped
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Green onion - 1 stalk, finely chopped
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, tapioca starch, and salt. Gradually add water while whisking until smooth. Let the batter rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Lightly grease a flat steaming tray or a heatproof plate.
  3. Pour a thin layer of batter onto the greased tray, making sure it covers the bottom evenly. Steam for 4-5 minutes until set.
  4. Spread a portion of the chopped spinach, julienned carrot, and a drizzle of beaten egg over the steamed batter. Steam for another 2-3 minutes until the egg is cooked.
  5. Carefully roll the steamed mixture from one end to the other to form a log. Transfer to a plate and repeat with remaining batter and fillings.
  6. Slice the rolled Cheong Fun into bite-sized pieces. Drizzle with sesame oil and soy sauce, and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
