Ingredients

  • Korean rice cakes (tteok) - 200 grams
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce (kosher) - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
  • Green onion (sliced) - 2 tablespoons
  • Mozzarella cheese (shredded) - 100 grams
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish) - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the rice cakes to the sauce and cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and fully cooked.
  3. Stir in the sliced green onion and sesame oil, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Transfer the tteokbokki to a baking dish and evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake the tteokbokki for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  6. Remove from the oven, garnish with sesame seeds, and serve hot.
