Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Olive oil - 30 ml
  • Beef (thinly sliced) - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 45 ml
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onion (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Carrot (julienned) - 50 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil; knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, marinate the beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger, and chopped green onion for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the marinated beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Add the julienned carrot in the last minute of cooking.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  7. Flatten each ball into a disk, place a spoonful of the bulgogi mixture in the center, and fold the edges over to seal. Shape into a bun.
  8. Place the buns seam-side down on a lined baking tray and cover them with a cloth. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and allow to cool slightly before serving.
