  • Soy sauce - 30ml
  • Mirin - 15ml
  • Sake - 15ml
  • Sesame oil - 5ml
  • Fresh ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic, minced - 1 clove
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Clean the mackerel by removing the guts and rinsing it under cold water; pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt to create the marinade.
  3. Place the cleaned mackerel in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it; let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Remove the mackerel from the marinade and place it skin-side down on the grill; cook for 6-8 minutes.
  6. Flip the fish carefully and grill for another 6-8 minutes or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily.
  7. Remove from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
