Ingredients
- Short-grain rice - 200 grams
- Water - 250 ml
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cooked chicken breast, shredded - 100 grams
- Nori sheets - 2, cut into strips
- Green onions, finely chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
Steps
- Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
- Combine the rinsed rice and water in a pot, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- Remove the rice from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 10 minutes to steam.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice with soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, shredded chicken, green onions, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Divide the rice mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into triangular or oval onigiri forms.
- Preheat a grill or a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lightly oil the grill or skillet.
- Grill each onigiri for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the grill and wrap a strip of nori around each onigiri for added flavor and presentation.
