Ingredients

  • Beef ribeye or sirloin - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Mirin - 30 ml
  • Sugar - 15 grams
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Cooked white rice - 400 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Nori (seaweed) - 2 sheets, cut into strips

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  2. Slice the beef into thin strips and add them to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. While the beef is marinating, prepare the cooked white rice and keep it warm.
  4. Heat a grill pan or BBQ grill over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade (reserving the marinade) and grill the beef strips for about 2-3 minutes on each side until cooked to your liking.
  5. In a small saucepan, bring the reserved marinade to a boil and then simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
  6. To serve, place the warm rice in bowls, top with the grilled beef, and drizzle with the reduced marinade. Garnish with chopped spring onions, sesame seeds, and strips of nori.
