- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
- Plant-based milk - 1/2 cup
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Cooked rice - 2 cups
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Nori seaweed - for garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into 1 cm thick slices.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with plant-based milk, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dip each tofu slice first in flour, then in plant-based milk, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tofu slices and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, and a splash of water. Heat gently until warmed through.
- To serve, place a portion of cooked rice in a bowl, top with crispy tofu, drizzle the warm sauce over it, and garnish with chopped green onions, nori, and sesame seeds if desired.
