Ingredients

  • Unagi (grilled eel) - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Mirin - 30 ml
  • Sake - 15 ml
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Cooked brown rice - 200 grams
  • Steamed bok choy - 100 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Chopped scallions - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Heat over low flame until the sugar dissolves, then simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  2. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium heat. Place the grilled eel on the grill and brush generously with the sauce. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side until heated through and caramelized.
  3. While the eel is grilling, prepare the brown rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
  4. Steam the bok choy until just tender, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. To serve, place a portion of brown rice on each plate, top with the grilled eel, and drizzle with any remaining sauce. Arrange the steamed bok choy on the side.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions before serving.
