- Unagi (grilled eel) - 200 grams
- Cooked Japanese short-grain rice - 300 grams
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Mirin - 30 ml
- Sugar - 15 grams
- Sake - 15 ml
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Nori (seaweed) - 2 sheets, cut into strips
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, and the mixture thickens slightly to create a glaze.
- While the glaze is cooking, prepare the cooked rice by steaming or microwaving it until warm.
- Grill or broil the unagi for about 5-7 minutes until heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.
- Once the glaze is ready, brush it generously over the grilled unagi.
- To serve, divide the warm rice into two bowls and place the glazed unagi on top.
- Garnish with chopped green onions, nori strips, and sesame seeds.
