Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Burger buns - 2 units
- Lettuce leaves - 2 pieces
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Cucumber - 1/2 medium, sliced
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into 2 equal-sized patties.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
- Place the tofu patties in the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.
- While the tofu marinates, prepare the teriyaki sauce by combining the remaining marinade in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer and mix in cornstarch until thickened. Set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden and heated through.
- Toast the burger buns lightly in the same skillet or in a toaster.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by a tofu patty, sliced tomato, cucumber, and a sprinkle of green onions. Drizzle with the thickened teriyaki sauce and top with sesame seeds.
- Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
