Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Burger buns - 2 units
  • Lettuce leaves - 2 pieces
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1/2 medium, sliced
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into 2 equal-sized patties.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  3. Place the tofu patties in the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.
  4. While the tofu marinates, prepare the teriyaki sauce by combining the remaining marinade in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer and mix in cornstarch until thickened. Set aside.
  5. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden and heated through.
  6. Toast the burger buns lightly in the same skillet or in a toaster.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by a tofu patty, sliced tomato, cucumber, and a sprinkle of green onions. Drizzle with the thickened teriyaki sauce and top with sesame seeds.
  8. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
