Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 100 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Shredded cabbage - 100 grams
  • Tonkatsu sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sliced avocado - 1 small

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into two equal slabs.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Marinate the tofu slabs in this mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dredge each marinated tofu slab in flour, then dip it into the egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tofu and fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While the tofu is frying, toast the burger buns in a separate pan until golden.
  7. Assemble the burgers by spreading a tablespoon of tonkatsu sauce on the bottom bun, adding the fried tofu, a handful of shredded cabbage, and slices of avocado. Top with the other half of the bun.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your Tofu Katsu Burger!
