Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Panko breadcrumbs - 100 grams
- All-purpose flour - 50 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons (for frying)
- Burger buns - 2
- Shredded cabbage - 100 grams
- Tonkatsu sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sliced avocado - 1 small
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into two equal slabs.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Marinate the tofu slabs in this mixture for 10 minutes.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each marinated tofu slab in flour, then dip it into the egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tofu and fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- While the tofu is frying, toast the burger buns in a separate pan until golden.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading a tablespoon of tonkatsu sauce on the bottom bun, adding the fried tofu, a handful of shredded cabbage, and slices of avocado. Top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your Tofu Katsu Burger!
