Ingredients
- Eggs - 4 large
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce (Halal) - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, mirin, soy sauce, sugar, and salt until well combined and slightly frothy.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add half of the vegetable oil, spreading it evenly across the pan.
- Pour a small amount of the egg mixture (about 1/4 cup) into the skillet, tilting the pan to spread it evenly.
- Cook until the edges start to set, then gently lift the edges with a spatula and roll the omelette towards the far side of the pan.
- Add another small amount of oil to the pan and pour in another 1/4 cup of the egg mixture, making sure to lift the rolled omelette so the liquid can flow underneath.
- Cook until the edges set, then roll the omelette towards the far side again, repeating the process of layering and rolling until all the egg mixture is used.
- Once finished, remove the tamagoyaki from the pan and let it cool for a minute before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve the tamagoyaki warm or at room temperature, garnished with sliced green onions or a drizzle of soy sauce if desired.
