Ingredients

  • Sushi rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Rice vinegar - 30 ml
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Nori sheets - 2 sheets
  • Fresh crab meat - 100 grams
  • Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Wasabi - to taste
  • Pickled ginger - for serving

Steps

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes. Then, transfer rice to a large bowl.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour over the warm rice and gently fold to combine. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  5. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay a sheet of nori shiny side down on the mat.
  6. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a 2 cm border at the top.
  7. In the center of the rice, place a few pieces of crab meat, avocado slices, and cucumber sticks.
  8. Using the mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to form a tight roll. Seal the edge of the nori with a bit of water.
  9. Repeat the process with the second sheet of nori and remaining ingredients.
  10. Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 6-8 pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
