Ingredients
- Sushi rice - 150 grams
- Water - 200 ml
- Rice vinegar - 30 ml
- Sugar - 10 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Nori sheets - 2 sheets
- Fresh crab meat - 100 grams
- Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
- Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Wasabi - to taste
- Pickled ginger - for serving
Steps
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes. Then, transfer rice to a large bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour over the warm rice and gently fold to combine. Allow to cool to room temperature.
- Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay a sheet of nori shiny side down on the mat.
- Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a 2 cm border at the top.
- In the center of the rice, place a few pieces of crab meat, avocado slices, and cucumber sticks.
- Using the mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to form a tight roll. Seal the edge of the nori with a bit of water.
- Repeat the process with the second sheet of nori and remaining ingredients.
- Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 6-8 pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
