- Napa cabbage (chopped) - 100 grams
- Green onions (sliced) - 2 stalks
- Carrot (julienned) - 1 medium
- Soy sauce (Halal) - 3 tablespoons
- Mirin (Halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 250 milliliters
- Fresh ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a pot, combine the soaked rice with 225 ml of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet or frying pan, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
- Add the thinly sliced Halal beef to the skillet, cooking until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the shiitake mushrooms, napa cabbage, julienned carrot, and green onions. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, mirin, and brown sugar until the sugar dissolves. Pour this mixture over the beef and vegetables in the skillet.
- Add 250 ml of water to the skillet, bring to a simmer, and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Fluff the cooked rice with a fork and serve it in bowls topped with the sukiyaki mixture.
