Ingredients
- Japanese short-grain rice - 1 cup (200g)
- Water - 1 1/4 cups (300ml)
- Fresh shiso leaves - 10 leaves
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Toasted sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine the soaked rice and 1 1/4 cups of water, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until the water is absorbed.
- While the rice is cooking, finely chop the shiso leaves and set aside.
- Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 10 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork, then gently mix in the chopped shiso leaves, sesame oil, soy sauce, mirin, and salt to taste.
- Serve the Shiso Leaf Rice warm, garnished with toasted sesame seeds.
