- Short-grain Japanese rice - 200 grams
- Water - 300 ml
- Fresh shiso leaves - 10 leaves
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2 stalks
- Nori seaweed - 1 sheet (optional for garnish)
Steps
- Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- In a rice cooker or a medium pot, combine the rinsed rice, 300 ml of water, and salt. Let it soak for 30 minutes.
- After soaking, cook the rice according to the rice cooker instructions or bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until all water is absorbed.
- While the rice is cooking, finely chop the fresh shiso leaves and green onions.
- Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork, then gently fold in the chopped shiso leaves, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
- Serve the Shiso Gohan warm, garnished with additional shiso leaves, green onions, and shredded nori if desired.
