  • Water - 300 ml
  • Fresh shiso leaves - 10 leaves
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2 stalks
  • Nori seaweed - 1 sheet (optional for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a rice cooker or a medium pot, combine the rinsed rice, 300 ml of water, and salt. Let it soak for 30 minutes.
  3. After soaking, cook the rice according to the rice cooker instructions or bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until all water is absorbed.
  4. While the rice is cooking, finely chop the fresh shiso leaves and green onions.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice with a fork, then gently fold in the chopped shiso leaves, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  7. Serve the Shiso Gohan warm, garnished with additional shiso leaves, green onions, and shredded nori if desired.
