Ingredients

  • Japanese short-grain rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 240 ml
  • Halal fish fillet (such as salmon or mackerel) - 200 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce (Halal certified) - 1 tablespoon
  • Mirin - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Nori (seaweed) - 1 sheet, cut into strips

Steps

  1. Rinse the Japanese short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes, and drain.
  2. In a rice cooker, combine the soaked rice with 240 ml of water and cook according to the rice cooker's instructions.
  3. While the rice is cooking, preheat a grill or pan over medium heat.
  4. Season the Halal fish fillet with salt, soy sauce, and mirin, letting it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  5. Grill the fish for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and flaky.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and stir in sesame oil and chopped green onions.
  7. Serve the rice in bowls, topped with grilled fish and strips of nori.
