Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Carrot - 50 grams, grated
  • Green onion - 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Kombu dashi - 1 cup (250 ml)
  • Potato starch - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Oil for frying - as needed

Steps

  1. Drain the firm tofu and press it gently to remove excess water. Crumble the tofu into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the grated carrot, chopped green onion, kombu dashi, potato starch, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and sesame oil to the crumbled tofu. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, take small portions of the tofu mixture and shape them into patties or oval shapes.
  4. Carefully place the shaped patties into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the satsuma-age from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve warm with a dipping sauce of your choice.
