Ingredients

  • Satoimo (taro root) - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Mirin - 15 ml
  • Dashi stock (or water) - 100 ml
  • Sesame oil - 5 ml
  • Chopped green onion - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Peel the satoimo and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a pot, add the satoimo and cover with water. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes or until tender.
  3. Drain the satoimo and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, combine soy sauce, mirin, dashi stock, and sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Add the cooked satoimo to the pot and gently stir to coat them in the sauce. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the satoimo absorbs the flavors.
  6. Remove from heat, season with salt to taste, and transfer to a serving dish.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
