Ingredients

  • Unagi (grilled eel) - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Mirin - 1 tablespoon
  • Sake - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Cooked white rice - 2 cups
  • Green onions (sliced) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Steamed broccoli - 100 grams
  • Pickled ginger - for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it reduce for about 5 minutes to create a glaze.
  3. Place the grilled eel on the grill and brush it with the glaze. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side until heated through and slightly caramelized.
  4. While the eel is grilling, prepare the rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.
  5. Once the eel is ready, slice it into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Serve the cooked rice in bowls, top with the grilled eel, and drizzle any remaining glaze over the top.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and serve with steamed broccoli on the side. Add pickled ginger for an extra zing.
