Ingredients

  • Fresh sashimi-grade fish (such as mackerel or tuna) - 200 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free if needed) - 2 tablespoons
  • Yuzu juice (or lemon juice) - 1 tablespoon
  • Scallions - 2, finely sliced
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Radish sprouts - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Start by patting the fish dry with paper towels and then season it with salt and black pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, and add the sesame oil.
  3. Once the oil is hot, sear the fish for about 30 seconds on each side until it's lightly browned outside but still rare in the center.
  4. Remove the fish from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the grated ginger, minced garlic, soy sauce, and yuzu juice to create the dressing.
  6. Arrange the sliced fish on a plate, drizzle the dressing over it, and sprinkle with scallions and cilantro.
  7. Garnish with radish sprouts if desired and serve immediately.
