- Saba (mackerel) - 200 grams
- Soy sauce (halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin (halal) - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Cooked Japanese rice - 1 cup (200 grams)
- Water - 1/2 cup (120 ml)
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, and salt to create a marinade for the mackerel.
- Cut the mackerel into fillets and place them in the marinade for at least 15 minutes.
- While the fish is marinating, rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
- In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice with 1/2 cup of water and cook according to the rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil on the stove, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, remove the mackerel from the marinade and grill or pan-fry on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side until cooked through.
- Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and serve it in bowls.
- Top the rice with the grilled mackerel, chopped green onions, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
