Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 2 x 150g
  • Sea salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Sake - 1 tablespoon
  • Mirin - 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon wedges - 2 for serving
  • Shredded daikon radish - 100g for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the mackerel fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Sprinkle sea salt evenly over both sides of the fillets and let them rest for about 15 minutes to allow the salt to penetrate the fish.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat.
  4. Rinse the excess salt off the fillets under cold water and pat dry again.
  5. Brush the fillets lightly with sake and mirin on both sides.
  6. Place the mackerel fillets skin side down on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is crispy.
  7. Carefully flip the fillets and grill for an additional 5-7 minutes until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  8. Remove from the grill and let rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
  9. Serve the grilled mackerel with lemon wedges and shredded daikon radish on the side.
