- Mackerel fillets - 2 x 150g
- Sea salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sake - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Lemon wedges - 2 for serving
- Shredded daikon radish - 100g for garnish
Steps
- Rinse the mackerel fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Sprinkle sea salt evenly over both sides of the fillets and let them rest for about 15 minutes to allow the salt to penetrate the fish.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat.
- Rinse the excess salt off the fillets under cold water and pat dry again.
- Brush the fillets lightly with sake and mirin on both sides.
- Place the mackerel fillets skin side down on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is crispy.
- Carefully flip the fillets and grill for an additional 5-7 minutes until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Remove from the grill and let rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
- Serve the grilled mackerel with lemon wedges and shredded daikon radish on the side.
