Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 300 grams
  • Water - 250 ml
  • Coconut aminos - 3 tablespoons
  • Mirin (or Paleo-friendly sweetener) - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Green onions - 2, sliced
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, coconut aminos, mirin, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the mackerel fillets to the saucepan, skin side down, and allow to simmer for about 15 minutes, spooning the sauce over the fish occasionally.
  3. Once the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, remove the saucepan from heat.
  4. Transfer the mackerel to a serving plate, drizzle with the sauce from the pan, and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
