- Glutinous rice flour - 100 grams
- Water - 80 ml
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Cornstarch - for dusting - 20 grams
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Brown sugar - 40 grams
- Sesame seeds - for garnish - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and sugar.
- Gradually add water to the mixture, stirring until smooth.
- Transfer the mixture to a microwave-safe bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir. Repeat this process for a total of 3 minutes, stirring after each minute until the mixture becomes thick and sticky.
- Dust a clean surface with cornstarch and carefully pour the mochi mixture onto it. Allow it to cool slightly.
- Once cool enough to handle, cut the mochi into bite-sized pieces and dust each piece with more cornstarch to prevent sticking.
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce and brown sugar over low heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved and the mixture thickens slightly. This should take about 5 minutes.
- Serve the mochi pieces drizzled with the sweet soy sauce and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
