- Water - 250 ml
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds (for garnish) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the Japanese short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the soaked rice, 250 ml of water, salt, and maple syrup.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, remove the lid and gently fold in the sweet chestnuts and vanilla extract.
- Cover the pot again and cook for an additional 5 minutes on low heat.
- Remove from heat and allow to sit, covered, for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Serve warm, garnished with sesame seeds.
