Ingredients
- Potatoes - 300 grams
- Ground Halal beef - 100 grams
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Flour - 1/2 cup
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - for frying
Steps
- Peel and dice the potatoes, then boil them in salted water for about 15 minutes until tender. Drain and mash them in a large bowl.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground Halal beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Combine the beef mixture with the mashed potatoes in the large bowl. Mix until well combined and let it cool slightly.
- Once cool enough to handle, shape the mixture into small patties (about 5 cm in diameter).
- Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, the beaten egg in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
- Coat each patty in flour, dip into the beaten egg, then roll in panko breadcrumbs until fully covered.
- In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat (about 180°C). Fry the patties in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with tonkatsu sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
