Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 300 grams
  • Ground Halal beef - 100 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Flour - 1/2 cup
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Peel and dice the potatoes, then boil them in salted water for about 15 minutes until tender. Drain and mash them in a large bowl.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground Halal beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Combine the beef mixture with the mashed potatoes in the large bowl. Mix until well combined and let it cool slightly.
  5. Once cool enough to handle, shape the mixture into small patties (about 5 cm in diameter).
  6. Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, the beaten egg in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
  7. Coat each patty in flour, dip into the beaten egg, then roll in panko breadcrumbs until fully covered.
  8. In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat (about 180°C). Fry the patties in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve hot with tonkatsu sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
