Ingredients

  • Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Peel and thinly slice the red onion into rings or half-moons.
  2. In a bowl, combine water, rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir until the sugar and salt are fully dissolved.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the vinegar mixture and ensure they are submerged.
  4. Let the onions marinate for at least 10 minutes at room temperature.
  5. If desired, add sesame oil and chili flakes to the pickling liquid for extra flavor.
  6. Serve immediately or store in a jar in the refrigerator for up to a week.
