Ingredients

  • Fresh oysters - 12 pieces
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 100 grams
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 200 milliliters (for frying)
  • Lemon wedges - for serving
  • Tonkatsu sauce - 50 milliliters (for serving)

Steps

  1. Start by shucking the fresh oysters and gently rinse them under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg until well mixed.
  4. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Dredge each oyster in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess, then dip it into the beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off.
  6. Finally, coat the oyster in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  8. Carefully place the breaded oysters into the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  9. Once cooked, remove the oysters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. Serve the Kaki Fry Fried Oysters hot with lemon wedges and drizzled with tonkatsu sauce.
