Ingredients

  • Inari age (fried tofu pouches) - 4 pieces
  • Sushi rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Rice vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Chopped scallions - 2 tablespoons
  • Nori (seaweed) strips - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water, and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved.
  6. Fluff the cooked rice with a fork and gently fold in the vinegar mixture until well combined. Let it cool to room temperature.
  7. While the rice cools, prepare the inari age by gently opening each pouch.
  8. Once the rice is cool, fill each inari pouch with the seasoned sushi rice, pressing lightly to pack it in.
  9. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped scallions on top for added flavor.
  10. Garnish with nori strips if desired, and serve immediately.
