- Japanese short-grain rice - 150 grams
- Water - 180 milliliters
- Ikura (salmon roe) - 100 grams
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Nori (seaweed) - 1 sheet, cut into strips
- Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and 180 milliliters of water. Cook according to the rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
- While the rice cooks, prepare the soy sauce and mirin mixture in a small bowl.
- Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
- Serve the warm rice in two bowls. Drizzle the soy sauce and mirin mixture over the rice.
- Top each bowl with 50 grams of ikura, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, and garnish with nori strips.
